The International Architecture Planning Ideas Competition for Pho Hien University Urban Area

After the competition being launched for almost 3 months, on June 30, 2011, Viet Han Trading – Advertising – Construction – Real Estate Co., Ltd. and the Organization Body of The International Architecture Planning Ideas Competition for Pho Hien University Urban Area – Hung Yen Scale 1/2000  held  ceremony of  awards announcement for competitionants

Pho Hien University Urban Area belongs to Hung Yen province. The size for planning survey is more than 1.700ha totally in which about 700 ha of area is for base of  education, vocation, survey and development with capacity of 80.000 students and 1.000 lecturers and professors who specialize in technological science survey and development. Additionally, this site has 300 ha of urban land with population size of about 30.000 people. The remained area is the existing residential land, land for reclamation and justification to the existing residential area. Pho Hien University urban area is the important motive to develop the Hung Yen urban area that would contribute to the development of urban areas in Hanoi. 

The goal of this competition is to seek the options for the best planning  of Pho Hien University, otherwise, selecting  the most excellent proposal with further vision that meets the maximum of requirement of  aesthetics, architectural planning, landscape, use, etc. The Pho Hien University Urban Area belongs to Hung Yen province where has the studious tradition, historically cultural structures and vestiges both in material and immaterial conveying a deeply social and educational meaning.

After the deadline of competition on June 20, 2011, the organization body chose 14 international competitionants and 2 domestic competitionants, and selected the most practical ideas of architects and international as well as domestic planning specialists on which  these could be a foundation for selection of consultants to develop the next design steps.

The Organization Body received nine plans from eight consultants, six of them are oversea prestigious consultants  from countries such as Korea, Italy, United States, Germany, Australia, and China. On 24 and 25 of June, examiners council included 13 members led by Architect Nguyen Tan Van – Chairman of Vietnam Architecture Council; Elite Teacher – PhD Nguyen Khac Hao ,who is the Standing Vice President of People’s Committee of Hung Yen Province, is the Vice Chairman of Council  attended the presentations of competitionants and examined the qualified plans that conform with the given norms of competition.

In this competition, nobody won the champion. The second prize was awarded to the SW 0401 design of SD Partner Architects & Engineers (Korea); The third prize was awarded to the AZ 3605 design of Architettiriuniti (Italy); The consolation prize was awarded to the CC 6868 design of Urban and Rural Planning Architect Institution – Construction Ministry.

The plan won the second prize is named Lotus City of which the plan based on the unique idea on both modern and the locally available historic elements.

According to the appraisal of Organization Body, all nine plans are abundant in concepts and solutions. Those plans consulted by oversea consultants are performed fairly well that can connect the university area to urban area and old town emphasizing the scarce features of Pho Hien – Hung Yen Province. On the basis of outcome of this competition, this is the premise for  Hung Yen Province to keep developing planning steps and construct the Pho Hien – Hung Yen University project which was approved by Government.

The International Architecture Planning Ideas Competition for Pho Hien University Urban Area in Hung Yen was well successful . According to the Organization Body of competition, all test-taken plans would be displayed and presented at the Exhibition Hall  for a wide referendum in province as  a source of information in coming days.
